Guelph Volkswagen
359 Woodlawn Rd W, Guelph, ON, N1H 7K9The 2026 Volkswagen Taos brings a full suite of driver-assist and connectivity features across its lineup, with standard safety tech on every trim and advanced systems available as you move up. If you're comparing trims to find the right balance of tech and value, here's how the Taos stacks up - from the base model to the top-tier Highline.
Every 2026 Taos - from the entry-level S to the loaded SEL - includes Front Assist with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Traffic Alert. These three systems cover the most common collision scenarios: sudden stops ahead, lane changes with a vehicle in your blind spot, and backing out of parking spaces.
Front Assist monitors the road ahead and applies the brakes automatically if it detects an imminent collision - helpful in stop-and-go traffic or if a vehicle ahead brakes suddenly. The system includes pedestrian detection, so it works in urban areas where foot traffic crosses unexpectedly.
Blind Spot Monitor lights up an icon in your side mirror when a vehicle enters your blind zone, and Rear Traffic Alert does the same when you're reversing out of a parking spot and cross-traffic approaches from either side. All three systems are standard equipment, not optional add-ons.
Starting with the SE trim, the Taos adds Lane Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control. Lane Assist uses a camera to track lane markings and gently steers the vehicle back into the lane if you drift without signalling - useful on long highway stretches where attention can wander.
Adaptive Cruise Control maintains a set speed and automatically adjusts to match the flow of traffic ahead. You set your preferred following distance, and the system slows down or speeds up to maintain that gap. It reduces the constant throttle and brake adjustments that make highway driving tiring, especially on the 401 or Highway 20 during rush hour.
Both systems work together to reduce driver fatigue on longer trips, but they still require you to keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
The SEL trim adds Travel Assist and Emergency Assist - Volkswagen's most advanced driver-assist features. Travel Assist pairs Lane Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control into a single system that handles both steering and speed simultaneously. It keeps the Taos centred in its lane while maintaining a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead.
You still need to keep your hands on the wheel - the system monitors steering input and will alert you if it detects no contact for too long.
Emergency Assist activates if the system detects that you've stopped steering or responding to alerts. It assumes a medical emergency or loss of consciousness, gradually slows the vehicle, activates the hazard lights, and brings the Taos to a controlled stop in its lane. It's a backup system for worst-case scenarios, not a hands-free driving mode.
All Taos trims include the Digital Cockpit - a configurable digital instrument cluster that replaces traditional gauges. You can switch between layouts to prioritize navigation, trip data, or driver-assist system status. The display is sharp and easy to read in direct sunlight.
The infotainment system is also standard across the lineup, with voice commands and wireless charging for compatible devices. The base system includes six speakers.
Navigation is available on the SEL trim, integrated directly into the infotainment system.

If you're comfortable with Lane Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control but don't need the combined system, the SE offers strong value.
The base S trim still includes the three most important safety systems - Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Traffic Alert - so you're not sacrificing core collision-avoidance tech by choosing the entry model.
Navigation is exclusive to the SEL, but if you rely on your phone for directions, the standard infotainment system still provides a solid foundation for connectivity.
The best way to understand how these systems work is to experience them on a test drive. The team at Guelph Volkswagen can walk you through the Digital Cockpit, demonstrate Travel Assist on a highway loop, and show you how the safety systems respond in real-world scenarios.
We have the full 2026 Taos lineup, so you can compare trims side by side and find the right balance of tech and budget.
