359 Woodlawn Rd W, Guelph, ON, N1H 7K9Volkswagen just pulled the cover off the all-new 2027 Atlas Cross Sport, and Ontario shoppers now have a real look at what’s changing before the SUV reaches showrooms. The redesign touches the sheet metal, the cabin, and the engine under the hood.
If you’re deciding whether to wait for the new generation or move on a current model, here’s what Volkswagen has confirmed so far for this five-seat midsize SUV, and what’s still to come before launch.
The second-generation Atlas Cross Sport rides on all-new sheet metal, with double stacked LED headlights, a masked upper grille, and double light lines that give it a distinct signature at night. The illuminated VW badge and light lines are standard on every trim except the base Comfortline.
The coupe-like rear pillars and a tailgate that now sits flush with the bumper carry the sportier profile through to the back, where a cross-body taillight design mirrors the front lighting theme. Every trim gets body-colour rocker panels.
Highline and Execline R-Line trims ride on new 20- and 21-inch alloy wheels, while Comfortline keeps 18-inch rims. Three new exterior colours join the palette: Dark Sage Metallic, Blackberry Metallic, and Ascot Grey.
Inside, a single architectural loop unifies the dashboard, finished in soft-touch surfaces with standard grey open-pore wood. Buyers can choose from three interior colour themes: Soul Black, Mistral Grey, and a Cross Sport-exclusive Chestnut Brown.
A 10-colour ambient lighting setup is standard, expanding to 30 colours on Highline and Execline R-Line. Those same two trims add an organic spiral dash pattern that carries into perforated, backlit door panels front and rear, paired with a standard “Atmospheres” feature that coordinates lighting and audio.
Under the hood is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 282 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive is standard across the lineup, so every trim sends power to all four wheels without an upgrade.
For models fitted with the factory-installed trailer hitch, towing capacity holds at 5,000 lbs (2,268 kg), enough for a mid-size trailer, a set of personal watercraft, or a loaded utility trailer for weekend projects.
The lineup steps through three trims, and the biggest visible jumps are the screen size and the materials on the seats. Comfortline keeps things simple with leatherette upholstery and a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, while both Highline and Execline R-Line move to a 15-inch display.

Audio follows the same climb: Comfortline includes a 9-speaker system, while Execline R-Line steps up to a 14-speaker harman/kardon premium setup. Every trim gets the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro gauge cluster, so the core digital layout carries through the whole range.
Highline and Execline R-Line also add the panoramic sunroof as standard equipment, along with enhanced Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control that adjusts speed through curves, roundabouts, and exit ramps when paired with native navigation. Park Assist is added on Execline R-Line alone.
A new front centre airbag brings the total to seven airbags, and the IQ.DRIVE driver-assistance suite gets real upgrades. Travel Assist now supports semi-automated hands-on driving from 0 to 150 km/h and adds driver-initiated lane changes, while Emergency Assist Plus can guide the vehicle to the roadside if it detects a medical emergency.
Day-to-day convenience gets attention too, with several features now standard rather than optional extras:
For Ontario families juggling commutes, errands, and weekend trips, the combination of standard AWD, confirmed towing, and the upgraded driver-assist suite matters more than any single spec. It’s the kind of everyday confidence that shows up on wet highways and tight parking lots alike.
Volkswagen has confirmed the design, interior, powertrain, and technology for the 2027 Atlas Cross Sport. Further specifications and pricing will be announced ahead of the vehicle’s launch in early 2027, alongside the planned hybrid variant arriving with the midcycle refresh.
The 2027 Atlas Cross Sport brings a reworked cabin, a more powerful 2.0-litre turbo engine, and an upgraded driver-assistance suite to Volkswagen’s five-seat midsize SUV. The changes span nearly every trim, from Comfortline through Execline R-Line.
