VW Cares

Shinerama is Canada's largest post-secondary fundraiser in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Over 35,000 student volunteers from 50 Canadian universities and colleges across the country come together every year to make a difference in the lives of those battling cystic fibrosis (CF). Student volunteers all over Canada are shining shoes, flipping burgers, washing cars and doing whatever it takes to raise crucial funding to fight cystic fibrosis. This national event puts the "fun" in fundraising!

Since 1964, Shinerama has raised approximately $26 million dollars for life-saving CF research and care. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all past and present Shiners. The support from Shinerama schools and students over the past 53 years has been instrumental to advancing the battle against this devastating disease.

As the event continues to gain momentum, so do our research efforts and the progress we've made in the search for a cure or control for CF. A child diagnosed in the 1960s was not expected to live long enough to attend kindergarten. The median age of survival of Canadians is among the highest in the world, at 52.1 years of age in 2015.

The fight against cystic fibrosis is far from over. Every week in Canada, two children are diagnosed and one person dies from this disease. Of the Canadians who died in 2014, half were under the age of 32.4 years.

There is no cure.

We rely on the generous support of our volunteers, donors and partners in our shared mission to improve the lives of Canadians living with CF, and to ultimately find a cure or control for this devastating disease. Register, fundraise or donate to Shinerama today to help breathe life into the future of Canadians who are struggling to breathe every day.

Join us at Guelph Volkswagen Saturday, September 9th to support the cause!

What drives us at Volkswagen? The same thing that drives the Volunteers of Camp Oochigeas (Ooch). The vision we share in making the world a better place. That's why this year Volkswagen has teamed up with Ooch. The Camp was started in 1983 by a group of volunteers united in their mission to build a camp for kids with and affected by childhood cancer. Camp Ooch is privately funded and free for the 1000+ kids that come through its doors each year. Camp Ooch serves children and their families at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), their urban recreation centre Ooch Downtown in the heart of Toronto and at their residential site in Muskoka. It is the only residential camp in Ontario that offers onsite IV chemotherapy treatment and blood transfusions, allowing them to serve the most vulnerable and fragile population of kids. Camp Ooch volunteers fill camper's days with challenging, fun activities ranging from archery, canoeing and kayaking and rockwall, giving kids with cancer what they need most – the chance to be a kid. Creating unforgettable experiences is what Ooch volunteers and Volkswagen do best.
