2021 Volkswagen Tiguan vs 2021 Ford Escape: What matters most to you?

When you are looking for a compact sport utility vehicle, you have a ton of options on the menu. Two of those options, the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Ford Escape, stand out by offering great driving dynamics and above-average handling which means that you get a vehicle that is not only spacious, but also fun to drive. That said, there are significant differences between the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Ford Escape and it all depends on what matters most to you when it comes time to make your decision.

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan delivers more interior space than the 2021 Ford Escape

For example, the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan delivers more interior space than the 2021 Ford Escape. Indeed, there is more space for rear-seat passengers as well as more cargo space with the Volkswagen Tiguan which offers 1,065 litres of total cargo space even with the rear seats in place. The Ford Escape has always been one of the smallest compact SUVs in the segment, and it only offers 869 litres of total cargo space. With the rear seats down, the Tiguan has over 2,000 litres of total cargo space while the Escape has around 1,800 litres.

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan is one of the few compact SUVs to offer an available third row of seats in the back. Although this is a temporary seat, it is still nice to have around. It’s also a testament to just how much space is available in the Tiguan. There would not be enough space to even attempt a third row in the Escape.

Better Performance in the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan offers one single engine, and it is the most powerful base engine in the segment. The 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder delivers 184 horsepower along with 220 pound-feet of torque, making it the only engine in its class to offer over 200 pound-feet of torque out of the gate.

The base engine in the 2021 Ford Escape is a three-cylinder 1.5-litre that delivers 181 horsepower with 190 pound-feet of torque. The difference in torque is what is immediately noticeable, but there’s more to it than that. Being a three-cylinder, the engine behaviour and the sound are also considerably different and take some to get used to. Or, you can simply buy a 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan and enjoy better performance, more natural driving dynamics, and improved interior versatility.
