2022 Volkswagen Taos vs. 2021 Mazda CX-5: The Taos Is More Efficient and Spacious

The all-new 2022 Taos will soon be in our dealership. This new arrival will charm you with its nimble character, urban profile, and its very impressive interior space. The turbocharged engine provides plenty of performance, but is also easy on fuel consumption. Moreover, the Taos includes a large number of technologies that aim at keeping you and your family safe throughout your travels.

Here, we line up the new 2022 Volkswagen Taos against the 2021 Mazda CX-5.

The 2022 Volkswagen Taos is a more efficient vehicle

Under the hood, the 2022 Taos includes a newly designed 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. With similar torque as the CX-5’s naturally aspirated engine base engine, the Taos can provide quick accelerations in the city and on the highway.

But the Taos is much more efficient. Thanks to advanced engineering and engine technologies, front wheel drive models only use 8.4 L/100 km in the city and 6.5 L/100 km on the highway. Buyers who opt for the Taos models equipped with 4MOTION AWD will benefit from low fuel consumption as well, with ratings of 9.4 L/100 km in the city with 7.4 L/100 km.

The CX-5 uses a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated engine in most models. This unit has higher fuel consumption ratings of 9.7 L/100 km in the city and 7.8 L/100 km on the highway on FWD models, and 10.2 L/100 km in the city and 8.2 L/100 km on the highway on AWD models. The 2.5-litre turbocharged engine goes ever higher, with ratings of 10.8/8.7 in the same driving conditions.

The 2022 Volkswagen Taos also focusses on space, and safety

The Taos also has more cargo volume than the CX-5. Overall, owners will enjoy 1,877 litres behind the front seats. The Mazda CX-5 can only provide 1,687 litres.

Keeping your family safe on the road is one of the Taos’ priorities. That’s why it comes with plenty of safety features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, High Beam Control, Forward Collision Warning with Autonomous Braking (Front Assist), Active Blind Spot Monitor, Lane Keeping System (Lane Assist), an Adaptive Front-Lighting System, and Park Distance Control.
