A compact sedan should be sporty, stylish, spacious and packed with technologies all at a great starting price. While some compact sedans on the market are indeed offered at low prices, they don’t always deliver in terms of refinement and overall driving experience. The Volkswagen Jetta has it all. It features advanced German engineering in a value-packed package that everybody can enjoy.
Here, we compare the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta with the 2022 Toyota Corolla.
The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta steps up in terms of performance
With a new and advanced standard turbocharged engine, the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta is ready to take you places. The new four-cylinder turbo delivers 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, along with outstanding reliability and efficiency. It can be mated to a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Toyota Corolla’s base engine is a 1.8-litre four cylinder that peaks at 139 hp and 126 lb-ft of torque. The Volkswagen Jetta’s base engine easily outpaces these ratings. The Corolla also has a four-cylinder 2.0-litre unit that outputs 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. The horsepower number may be a bit higher at the top, but the Jetta has much more torque, leaving the 2.0-litre powered Toyota in the dust when it comes to accelerations, or just plain driving enjoyment.
Then, there’s the Corolla hybrid, which has the lowest power figure of this comparison, with only 121 horsepower.
On the opposite side, the Jetta lineup has the almighty GLI. It is powered by a powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with an output of 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This Jetta comes with a standard six-speed manual transmission, or an available seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta offers more inside
As you would expect from any Volkswagen, the Jetta’s cabin is both comfortable and technologically advanced – but it is also very stylish, with new standard rhombus cloth seats and contrast stitching throughout the cockpit. On the other hand, the Corolla uses budget-oriented materials and textures.
It features advanced infotainment technologies and plenty of safety features. The Volkswagen Digital Cockpit instrument cluster now comes standard with an 8-inch display on Jetta, and the 10-inch Digital Cockpit Pro on GLI.
The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta takes the lead in terms of performance, refinement and technologies. It offers a much better package than the Corolla, especially for those who enjoy the drive!
