359 Woodlawn Rd W, Guelph, ON, N1H 7K9Cold mornings test a vehicle before you even leave the driveway. You want a warm seat, a warm steering wheel, clear glass and bright headlights for the early darkness.
The 2026 Volkswagen Taos covers those basics on every trim. From the front-wheel-drive Trendline to the Highline 4MOTION, a long list of cold-weather features comes standard. Here is what you get on any 2026 Taos, plus the extras that join as you move up the lineup.
The 2026 Taos comes in five trims: Trendline, Trendline 4MOTION, Comfortline 4MOTION, Comfortline Black Edition 4MOTION and Highline 4MOTION. Every one of them uses a 1.5 L 4-cylinder TSI engine with 174 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
That shared base also includes the cold-morning features below. Pick any trim and they come with it:
Every 2026 Taos has heated front seats and a leatherette multi-function heated steering wheel. These two features put warmth right where your body touches the vehicle, which makes a big difference in the first few minutes of a cold drive.
The seats themselves change as you move up the lineup. The Trendline and Trendline 4MOTION use cloth seating surfaces with a 6-way manually adjustable driver seat. The Comfortline 4MOTION and Comfortline Black Edition 4MOTION move to leatherette seating surfaces with an 8-way power driver seat with power recline. The Highline 4MOTION uses leather seating surfaces and adds ventilated front seats for the warmer months. Heated front seats stay standard all the way through.
Frost, salt spray and slush can make it hard to see on a winter morning. Every Taos comes with power-adjustable, heated exterior mirrors, which help you keep a clear view of what is beside and behind you.
Heated washer nozzles are standard on every trim too. They help keep washer fluid flowing when the temperature drops, so you can clean the windshield as you drive. Rain-sensing wipers round out the package by switching on by themselves when the glass gets wet.
Every 2026 Taos has dual-zone electronic climate control. The driver and front passenger can each set their own temperature, which helps when one person runs warm and the other runs cold. It is a small detail that makes shared winter commutes more pleasant.
In the darker months, many morning drives start before sunrise. Every 2026 Taos comes with LED projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, plus LED headlights with Adaptive Front-light System.
Key safety features are standard on every trim as well. Front Assist automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, Side Assist Active Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert and Travel Assist all come on the Trendline and every trim above it.
Every Taos has a push-start button, so there is no key to fumble with in cold weather. The Trendline and Trendline 4MOTION use KESSY Go central locking with a push-start button. From the Comfortline 4MOTION up, the Taos moves to KESSY keyless access with push-start button and proximity unlocking.
Some cold-weather extras come as you move up the lineup. Remote start comes standard from the Comfortline 4MOTION up, which includes the Comfortline Black Edition 4MOTION and Highline 4MOTION. With it, you can get the engine running before you head outside.
4MOTION all-wheel drive comes standard on every Taos except the front-wheel-drive Trendline. The Trendline 4MOTION and higher trims also add Driving Profile Selection, ECO driving mode and Hill Hold Assist with Hill Descent Control.
From the Comfortline 4MOTION, the Taos also adds Light Assist automatic high-beam control and dynamic headlights with cornering lights, two helpful extras for dark morning drives.
