The all-new 2022 Taos has a perfect size. It is small and compact so it can easily navigate the urban jungle. But it is also well-appointed inside, offering maximum space for friends and family, as well as cargo. It features a newly designed turbocharged engine which is unbelievably efficient. Needless to say, the Taos has a lot going on!
Here, we compare the 2022 Volkswagen Taos to the 2022 Hyundai Tucson.
The 2022 Volkswagen Taos focusses on torque and efficiency
Efficiency is important in a small utility vehicle, but so is driveability. Under the hood of the 2022 Volkswagen Taos, you will find a newly designed 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The torque output is really impressive and enhances drivability and driving dynamics. This engine has more torque than most Tucson grades, which makes it more swift and enjoyable on the road.
On the fuel consumption side, the Taos is a winner. FWD Taos models only use 8.4 L/100 km in the city and 6.5 L/100 km on the highway. If you choose to go with AWD, consumption will be limited to 9.4 L/100 km in the city and 7.4 L/100 km on the highway.
Most Tucson models use a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four cylinder as a base engine on most trims. The 2.5-litre FWD Tucson models consume 9.1 L/100 km in the city and 7.1/100 km on the highway, while the AWD Tucson equipped with the same engine use 9.9 L/100 km in the city and 8 L/100 km on the highway.
The 2022 Tucson does have a hybrid option on the menu, but details are scarce about its availability – and the pricing is much higher.
The 2022 Volkswagen Taos is spacious and high-tech
Need maximum space but don’t want to upgrade to a large SUV? The VW Taos is there for you with a total of 1,877 litres of cargo volume.
The Taos is equipped with the new Volkswagen Digital Cockpit instrument cluster which includes customizable displays and graphics that make driving easier. It also comes with many safety and driver assistance systems as standard. The Taos has a starting price of $26,695, while the Tucson starts higher, at $27,799
