The new 2022 Volkswagen Jetta introduced to the market last month received a wide range of improvements that include a new design front and back, new wheels, new colours, and improved interior tech and layout.
It also received a more powerful engine that now offers 158 horsepower as opposed to 147 in the previous Jetta. Torque is still rated at 184 pound-feet which is the highest level of torque in any base engine in the segment. That means that the Jetta is more powerful, accelerates quicker, and offers the highest level of performance in its class.
That said, Volkswagen engineers have improved the engine to make it more efficient as well, and the changes, although you can’t see them, are quite impressive. There are four specific improvements made to the Volkswagen Jetta 2022 that make it more fuel-efficient:
The higher compression ratio of 11.5 to 1 means that the engine can extract more power from each drop of fuel, meaning that less fuel is needed to reach a given level of performance.
The modified Miller Cycle means that the engine breathes better and airflow is less restricted. The new turbocharger delivers more boost, and the injection pressure has increased from 200 bars to 350 bars which reduces internal temperature within the cylinder while also making the fuel mix more optimally within the cylinder. Lastly, the new cylinder coating means less friction.
These are all small improvements, but together they make the Jetta so much more efficient despite giving it more power.
